Issue 01: New Beginnings

For the young artist of the 21st century, music is an integral part of their creative process. Playlists for car rides, workouts, showers, dancing in your friend’s bedroom, the work flow—we’re going to give it to you all. But first, a hello from our in-house curators who have personalized this month’s theme.

Krista: The Crossing

Nostalgic and vast—music to listen to on your long desert drives or treks through snowy mountains as you feel compelled to reflect on where you’ve been and where you might be going. You are caught in constant motion with the weight of the past propelling you towards an uncertain future.

Michelle: It’s Goin’

In honor of those moments when you are not okay, but you could be worse. I am forever spiraling and regaining balance—but still, I am grateful for the duality of life and for these nurturing gems.

Dea: Fire

This playlist represents the continuous tensions in rediscovering and accepting one’s roots. It hints the theme with tracks that seek to connect the present with the past; inviting ancestral legacies in sounds to manifest in modern beats. The journey then moves forward to an interpretation of resistance and anger of the current hegemony, but drastically calming the self with the sounds of the piano as a pause to breathe. Afterwards, modern beats were welcomed briefly but the past did not seem to enjoy being neglected; experimental jazz makes its way forward but then its darker daughters retaliate through power electronics and noise—the modern is frustration and anger.
